How to check the frame rate of Altair Astro Camera

• You can leave the camera lens cap on because we are not capturing any images.
• Open AltairCapture and connect cameras with the supplied standard 1.8m USB cable directly plugged into PC.
• Click on camera name.
• Goto Options > Preferences > Record > Time Limit (Seconds) and set that to 10secs. (leave Frame Limit unchecked). Also set File format to .SER and at this stage you can choose where to record the file. Tip: Your local SSD hard drive will perform best if it’s no more than 75% full.
• Switch to 8bit mode.
• Switch to RAW format.
• Make sure the radio button is set to “Video mode” (not Trigger Mode).
• Set video exposure duration to 5ms (Milliseconds).
• Make sure ROI is inactive.
• Make sure Binning is inactive (1×1).
• Make sure you’re on Full resolution setting (top menu) for your particular camera.
• Set Camera USB Frame rate to Full speed – this is usually level 3 on most cameras. If the camera fails to record the first frame and hangs, reduce the speed to level 2 or level 1 as required.
• Click capture button and it will automatically Capture a 10sec .SER file. Label this file with whatever the full resolution is for your camera.
• Then set the ROI to 1024×768 and re-do the above.
• Then do the same with ROI 640×480. You can leave all settings the same and just click on the “Capture” button, and it will start with the same settings.
• Get .SER Player download here: https://sites.google.com/site/astropipp/ser-player
• Open the file in .SER Player, and check how many frames it has recorded.
• Confirm how many frames were recorded in each resulting file, and divide by 10 to find the average frame rate in FPS…
