What is the unity gain of the Altair Hypercam 269C Camera?

“Unity Gain” is where one photo-electron produced by a pixel results in a 1 ADU (Analogue Digital Unit) output but the camera’s ADC (Analog Digital Unit). Unity gain depends on whether you have HCG (High Conversion Gain) or LCG (Low Conversion Gain) set up on the camera.

  • For LCG Unity Gain is approx. 564 in the ASCOM Driver and 3rd party software, or 5.64 Gain in AltairCapture.
  • For HCG Unity Gain is approx. 282 in the ASCOM Driver and 3rd party software, or 2.32 Gain in AltairCapture.
  • SharpCap: For this particular camera, SharpCap automatically switches from LCG to HCG at Gain 200, therefore Unity Gain in SharpCap is 282 (in HCG mode).
